General Race Rules

General rules and penalties apply to all riders. 

**There will be a pre race meeting for 12 hour riders & 24 hour cyclist & century riders**


*DAY LIGHT HOUR SAG IS NOT ALLOWED IN ANY DIVISIONS*  IF YOU ARE GOING OUT TO A STATIONARY LOCATION ON THE COURSE TO MEET YOUR  RIDER, PLEASE NOTIFY RACE OFFICIAL OF YOUR PLANS.  *AT NO TIME DURING DAY LIGHT HOURS IS SAG ALLOWED TO FOLLOW OR LEAP FROG RIDER*


1.)   Helmets must be worn by all riders at all times.

2.)   N.C. Traffic laws must be obeyed.

3.)   Timing check points are neutral zones and riders may not exceed 10 mph in this area. Timing area will be 20 meters prior to and after the start finish line. (Only exception to this rule is on the final lap of the 100 mile race)


4.)   You must follow directions of race official(s)

5.)   24 hours event riders: Lights and reflective gear are required from dusk to dawn. A front light is required and a rear blinking light. Reflective ankle bands, reflective vest, reflective jersey (more than small piping), reflective tape on shoes and or helmet is acceptable.    

6.)   Personal sag may be used for 24 hour riders from dusk till dawn.  Vehicle must use cautions lights at all times and MUST place a sign on vehicle OR in the window that states "CAUTION CYCLIST" or to that effect.  Sag may drive behind riders with riders in the headlights. Riders may ride side by side at night for safety reasons. *Sag must obey all traffic laws.* If rider or your sag receive a traffic ticket rider will lose 26 miles from total miles. When stopped, rider and sag must get completely off the road. This rule will be discussed in further detail on race day.

7.) No transfer of food / drink thru vehicle windows. Distribution from Sag vehicles should occur at stopped points only, clear of highway.

8.)   Ride no more than two abreast. Ride to the right of the road.

9.)   Drafting is not permitted in the 24 hour. Where as the 12 hour event is Drafting. 100 mile events do allow drafting also. Riders from 100 mile events may not draft 24 hour riders. Riders must maintain a 25 meter (27 yd) gap when not passing.

10.)   12 hour event starts at 7am and runs until 7pm of the same evening.  24 hour event starts at 7am and run to 7am the following morning. Riders may ride right up to the end of the time. At the end of the 12/24 events the rider must stop where they are when the time expires. Each mile will be marked. Riders stopping between two mile markers will get credit of the higher mile marker (we round up). Ties will be won by the rider who reached the distance first. Officials will be on the course near leader(s) at the end of events.

11.)  100 mile events will start at 7:30am and there will be a 10 hour cutoff to finish these rides. Extra time may be granted by the head race official and must be request between the 8th-10th hour of the time limit. (If your getting close and the head official feels you can continue in a safe manor, then more time will be granted. Lights and reflective gear may be required at this time.)

12.)  Penalties
      1st offense 15 miles off final total (15 minutes for 100 mile event.)
      2nd offense 25 miles off final total (25 minutes for 100 mile event)
      3rd offense DISQUALIFICATION WITH NO CREDIT FOR ANY  
      MILES.
      Note: Any rider or sag that receives a traffic ticket will loose one lap from final standings (25 miles) or one hour for 100 mile riders.  Any rider that is a lap down during the 100 mile race may not participate in any breakaways or the Peloton. No assisting any rider that is on the lead lap.

13.)  In case of a medical emergency call 911 first, then contact race official.

14.)  Riders must sign a waver prior to race. By participating in this event riders could be subject to testing for performance enhancing drugs.

15.) Alcohol Consumption or Possession is not allowed during this event.  NO ALCOHOL IS ALLOWED ON THE WHS CAMPUS
Violation will result in immediate disqualification from the event.

16.) Ample trash receptacles will be made  available to you at the start / finish area along with restroom facilities. Please be be considerate of all public properties and private properties along the route. Protection of the environment and properties along the route is a must.  We do not want to jeopardize our future events.

17.) Navigation:  The course will be marked with directional signs and mile markers.  However, all cyclist must navigate the course.  If a wrong turn is made, the cyclist must return to the course on the bike to the point on the course where the error occurred and resume from there.

18.) Bicycles: Rotating bikes during the event is acceptable as long as it is between its similar kind: Standard Road to a Time Trial, vise verse.  Recumbent to a HPV style, vise verse.  *Changing from a Standard to a Recumbent style, vise verse, will place you in that category and you can not switch back.  * Changing bikes in your class can be done when ever you like as much as you like during the event.

19.) If at anytime you stop forward progress for more than fifteen minutes or more you must notify the time station.

*No timing adjustments will be made due to weather, trains, traffic delays, etc.
* Race Director reserves the right to correct "clerical or Scribblers" errors.
*Any rule violations should be reported in a timely manner to the timing station when passing on THAT LAP.  Officials will in turn  monitor to see if violation is occurring.
*Any appeals to race results has to be submitted to the race director in writing within 30 minutes of the end of the event.

If you plan to change riders at other points than the TS, please notify the race official of your intentions prior to event start.


**All events are held rain or shine and entry fees are non refundable and non transferable.
